Haryana Woman, Lover Get Life Sentence For Killing Husband

 A court here on Friday sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for killing the former's husband. According to Nuh police, accused Geeta, a resident of Sohna, and her partner Samarjeet alias Surjit Chauhan, who lives in Delhi's Chattarpur, were found guilty by additional sessions judge Sandeep Kumar Duggal on Wednesday. The quantum of punishment was pronounced on Friday. The half-burnt body of the woman's husband Vipin Tomar was found abandoned near Shikrawa road under Nagina police station in September 2017. On the complaint of Om Prakash, a resident of Gohana village who informed the police, an FIR was registered under section 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code at Nagina police station. Influencer Andrew Tate To Move From Jail To House Arrest: Romania Court

A Romanian court on Friday ordered that controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother be moved from jail to house arrest while they are investigated for alleged human trafficking and rape. Tate, a British-American former kickboxer with millions of online followers, along with his younger brother and two Romanian women, are under investigation for allegedly "forming an organised criminal group, human trafficking and rape". Tate, 36, and his brother Tristan, 34, were arrested in late December, and have been held in pre-trial detention ever since, which was again extended last week. However, an appeals court "rejected the prosecution's proposal to extend the pre-trial detention" and ordered the pair be placed "under house arrest", according to a court ruling, which was seen by AFP. State Faced Economic Hardships Due To Centre's "Unfavourable" Policies: Kerala

Kerala experienced economic hardships due to the unfavourable policy measures taken by the central government, State Finance Minister K N Balagopal said on Friday. Mr Balagopal, who met the media here on the last day of the 2022-23 financial year, said there was a shortage of Rs 40,000 crore in this financial year due to the policies of the Centre. He also said that despite the adverse situations, Kerala managed to perform well in terms of income and expenditure. "Everything including salary, pension and loan repayment were paid correctly. The project cost of local bodies is over 96 per cent. Many panchayats have spent 100 per cent of the fund allotted, and the treasuries functioned without any hitch," Mr Balagopal said. IMF Approves $15.6 Billion Support Package For Conflict-Hit Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund has approved a $15.6 billion support package for Ukraine to assist with the conflict-hit country's economic recovery, the fund said in a statement Friday. The Russian invasion has devastated Ukraine's economy, causing activity to contract by around 30 percent last year, destroying much of its capital stock and fueling poverty, according to the IMF. The 48-month Extended Fund Facility program approved by the fund's board is worth roughly $15.6 billion. It forms the IMF's portion of a $115 billion overall support package comprised of debt relief, grants and loans by multilateral and bilateral institutions, the organization confirmed in a press conference Friday. Around 5,000 immigrants, including women and children, have fled from conflict-hit Myanmar since the military took power in February 2021. Supreme Court Clears 5,000 Crores From SEBI-Sahara Fund To Repay Depositors

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed a plea by the Centre seeking allocation of Rs 5,000 crore out of Rs 24,000 crore deposited by the Sahara group with market regulator Sebi to repay dues of the depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies.  The direction came on an application filed by the Centre in a PIL by a person named Pinak Pani Mohanty, who sought a direction to pay the amount to the depositors who invested in several chit fund companies and Sahara credit firms. A bench of justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar noted that the amount was lying in the "Sahara-SEBI Refund Account" unutilised. 64 Sabarimala Pilgrims Injured As Bus Falls Into Gorge In Kerala

As many as 64 people were injured, some seriously, as a bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu fell into a gorge in Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday, police said. The accident occurred when the bus carrying pilgrims was returning after darshan at Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, they said. A total of 64 people including nine children and two staff were on board when the bus veered off the road and fell into the gorge in Elavunkal near Kanamala Naranamthodu at around 1.30 PM. Air India on Monday launched a direct flight from Amritsar to Gatwick in the UK, with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia saying the new international connectivity will work as a catalyst for the development of the region. "Equipped with 18 business class seats featuring fully-flat beds and 238 economy class seats, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will be operating three flights a week on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday from Amritsar," the airline said in a release. Air India will operate 9 other weekly flights scheduled from Ahmedabad, Goa, and Kochi -- making it a total of 12 weekly flights to Gatwick. Primary School Teacher Kills Daughter Before Shooting Self In UP

A 55-year-old government school teacher allegedly shot his daughter on Sunday before killing himself following a fight, police said. The daughter was also a teacher at a government primary school, they said. Narendra Singh Yadav, a resident of Sadar Kotwali area here and posted at Josherwani College in Nagariya town, had a quarrel with his daughter, Juhi, 26, in the afternoon over some issue, police said. In a fit of rage, Yadav allegedly shot Juhi with his licensed rifle before shooting himself. Yadav's wife was also present in the house at the time of the incident, police said. Punjab Police on Friday said they have released 44 people taken into preventive custody during a crackdown on radical preacher Amritpal Singh and handed them over to their family. "In the larger interest of the public and keeping in view that youngsters should not suffer, Punjab Police have decided to release those persons who have a minimum role or were just following Amritpal Singh on religious sentiments only," said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla. Mr Shukla said in a statement that 44 people, who were under preventive custody, were released and handed over to their family members on Friday following a promise of good conduct in future.
