Petition Claims Temple Under Ajmer Dargah, Court Issues Notice

A court in Rajasthan's Ajmer has issued notices to the Archaeological Survey of India and the Centre following a petition that claims that there is a Shiva temple in the dargah of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer. The petition, filed in September, has asked the court to allow worship at the spot again. The petitioner's advocate, Yogesh Siroja, said civil judge Manmohan Chandel has ordered notices to the Ajmer Dargah Committee, the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) office in New Delhi seeking their response. The claims come of the heels of similar claims made for key shrines across the country, including the ones in Varanasi, Mathura and the Bhojshala at Dhar.  The court's order follows violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where four persons died and many were injured after a clash that was sparked by a local court's order of survey at a mosque. The petitioners had told the court that the mosque was built after destroying an old

NATO Vows Ukraine Backing After Russian Missile 'Intimidation'

NATO pledged support for Ukraine at talks in Brussels Tuesday after Russia's attempt to "intimidate" Kyiv's backers by firing an experimental hypersonic intermediate-range missile last week.  Russia on Thursday carried out a strike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro which President Vladimir Putin said was a test of its new Oreshnik missile. Putin said the missile attack was in response to Ukraine firing weapons supplied by the United States and Britain into Russia. The Kremlin leader warned that Moscow felt "entitled" to hit military facilities in countries that allow Ukraine to use their weapons against Russia.  "During the meeting, NATO allies reaffirmed their support for Ukraine," the alliance said in a statement after the talks.   "The attack, which targeted Dnipro, is seen as another attempt by Russia to terrorise the civilian population in Ukraine and intimidate those who support Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia's illega

The Impact Of Muslim Votes On Maharashtra Assembly Election Results

The sweep of the ruling alliance in Maharashtra has been widely attributed to the welfare programmes of the Eknath Shinde government. But a key factor has been the split in Muslim vote which has delivered a chunk of the state's 38 seats to the ruling alliance. The Muslim population is more than 20 per cent in these 38 seats, making a key difference in the outcome of the election. Over all, the ruling alliance has won 22 of these 38 seats, way ahead of the 13 won by the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi. The split in votes has hit the Congress hard - the party's score has dropped from 11 to five. The Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena Uddhav has got six seats and Sharad Pawar's NCP faction got two. Of the 38 seats, the BJP has increased its tally from 11 in 2019 to 14. The Shiv Sena of Eknath Shinde has won six seats and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party two seats. Of the remaining three seats, Samajwadi Party got two and Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM got just

5,500 kg Meth On Myanmar Boat: What Led To Biggest Drug Haul By Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard today caught a Myanmarese fishing boat in the Andaman Sea, which was carrying 5,500 kg of Methamphetamine and a satellite phone, making it the biggest-ever drug haul by the Coast Guard in the maritime domain. The Coast Guard's Dornier aircraft detected the boat 'Soe Wai Yan Htoo' during a reconnaissance sortie. The reconnaissance party found the boat's operations suspicious and informed the Joint Operation Centre (JOC), which deployed a Fast Patrol Vessel, ICG Ship Aruna Asaf Ali, to intercept the boat. The vessel did not match the characteristics of a local Indian boat, and it carried the Myanmar flag. The Indian Coast Guard shadowed the vessel until the early morning of Sunday.  Coast Guard's Aruna Asaf Ali boarded the suspicious boat for investigation at 0630 hrs on 24 Nov 24 when it was eight nautical miles off Barren Island in the Indian Territorial waters. The six boat crew onboard the boat were identified as Myanmarese nationals.
